Texas Speed Club
About Us
We ask that our members help with fundraising efforts to offset the cost of floor maintenance, uniforms and competition expenses.
About Texas Speed Club
Texas Speed Club is an organization formed to promote the sport of quad and inline speed skating. Our members train to participate in short track indoor speed skating competitions, outdoor meets and marathons sanctioned by USARS and USRSS throughout the year.
About Speed Skating
Inline and quad speed skating competitions are held in both indoor and outdoor venues. Texas Speed Club trains mostly for indoor events but there are also outdoor meets and marathons in which our team members participate.
Indoor skaters race counter clockwise in packs over a 100 meter oval track marked by pylons. The distance raced in each event depends of the skaters age division. Since this is a non-contact sport, skaters must learn skills to maneuver through the pack without pushing, blocking or using their bodies to interfere with other skaters in the race.
Speed skaters also learn to maintain a low body posture, with bent knees and ankles. The benefits of this are more power in the stroke because of the longer leg reach, and less wind resistance.
Inline speed skates are a low-cut, close fitting shoe version of inline skates and are made of leather, carbon fiber and/or composite materials. There are various removable and adjustable frames available that mount three or four polyurethane wheels, usually from 90 mm to 110 mm in diameter.
