About Texas Speed Club
Texas Speed Club is located mainly in Austin, Texas, inline speed skating indoors at Playland Skate Center. We also have Texas team members in Midland, Dallas/Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Houston, Oklahoma team members in Tulsa and in Louisiana team members in Shreveport.
Texas Speed Club is a non-profit organization formed to promote the sport of quad and inline speed skating in Austin, Texas. Our members train to participate in short track indoor speed skating competitions sanctioned by USA/RS and NIRA throughout the year.
We are fortunate to have an excellent coach, Sonny Felter, as well as several nationally ranked skaters who are always willing to teach and support the club members.
Texas Speed Club does not currently collect dues. However, to offset the cost of floor maintenance, uniforms and competition expenses, we ask that our members help with fundraising efforts. Our coach does not receive any compensation.
About Inline Speed Skating
The track at the rink is 100 meters around delimited by four cones. Speed skating is a pack-style sport with skaters striving for a low body position, non-serpentine straight-aways and powerful crossovers in the turns.
Speed skating requires discipline to train and compete. The club members may make speed skating look easy, however, most of our skaters have had lots of practice and experience. It may take a while to learn the graceful and powerful techniques required to be a competitive speed skater. You will be conditioning your leg and back muscles and improving your endurance while having a fast and fun time with friendly people. You will learn how to maneuver through the pack and plan strategies to reach your personal speed skating goals. Our coaches and club members can help you with speed skating drills, techniques and endurance training if you have the drive to compete.
